There are so many things about the Prado that cannot be rendered digitally. However amazing it may be to fly in from space on Google Earth , approach a 3-D model of Madrid's great art museum, and whizz to one of the 14 ultra-high resolution masterpieces within, there's a lot you miss.

Armchair tourists who are used to travelling the globe with Google Earth can now use the same technology to crawl all over the masterpieces in one of the world's most famous galleries: the Prado.

Google has released a search box tool for Macs which it believes will eventually make searching outside the browser a breeze. In a Google blog posting the company revealed that it is interested in beta testers willing to participate in taking the Google Quick Search Box from an “experimental” state to a fully formed powerful search tool.
