Choosing Keywords That Bring the Best Results

As a search engine optimization copywriter, I’ve seen my share of keywords. When working with me, clients choose their own keywords (or have someone else choose them) and then send me the list to include in their copy. I must admit, sometimes I’m just amazed at the selections I receive.
It’s absolutely imperative that you make wise choices in the area of keywords. Many people simply look at statistics. Others go strictly on the most highly searched keywords from one particular search engine. Still others do no research at all and just guess. Why Google Indexing requires a complex blend of skills

Most people possess one or maybe two of these skills, very rarely do people posses all four.  In truth, to get to all four, people who are good at two of these need to actively develop the other skills.  Now, if you are running your own business, do you really have the time to do this?  Is this the best use of your time?

Specifically the four skills needed for SEO work are:
Web Design – producing a visually attractive page
HTML coding - developing Search Engine friendly coding that sits behind the web design
Copy writing – producing the actual readable text on the page
Marketing – what are the actual searches that are being used, what key words actually get more business for your company?

Keywords and SEO - The facts

Unfortunately, many website owners overdo it. Keywords are one of the most important tools in ranking high on search engines. Abuse them and you will suffer the consequences.

Many novices read about places to add keywords, such as ALT tags, anchors and other areas. While these are meant to be used if you want to help boost your keywords, they should be relevant to the image or the place where you are linking. Many people try to stuff keywords into every possible place. There is no benefit whatsoever in doing this.

  • Title Tag : The title of the page and probably the most important tag. This tag should ideally be 10 words or less.
  • Meta Description : The description of the page, this page comes second in importance and is sometimes used by search engines as a descriptions of the page. This tage should not exceed 15 words.
