What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is a term coined by Tim O’Reilly to describe the evolving role of search from a its origins as a flat platform to one that is multidimensional and all inclusive.

Born at a conference brainstorming session between O’Reilly and MediaLive International, the term “Web 2.0″ has clearly taken hold, but there’s still a huge amount of disagreement about just what Web 2.0 means. Some people decrying it as a meaningless marketing buzzword, and others accepting it as the new conventional wisdom.

Social Marketing

Social Marketing is a new term that spun off the recent growth and popularity of “Web 2.0″ in search.

Wikipedia’s description of Social Marketing is as follows:

Social marketing is the systematic application of marketing alongside other concepts and techniques to achieve specific behavioural goals for a social good.

Social Marketing is the means by which to ensure a website is active in the Web 2.0 scene.

There are many ways to ensure that your site is Web 2.0 smart, these include:

  • Participating in social bookmarking communities
  • Participating in Social Tagging Communities
